DJ Pencil, a pioneer of the Amapiano sound and the hitmaker of “Tshwara,” has passed away. His real name was Sammy Moripe, and he was one half of the Barcadi duo, Pencil & Zingmaster.
The legendary artist had been struggling with an undisclosed illness before his passing yesterday. Pencil was widely recognized as one of Bacardi's greatest assets, and his influence and contributions were instrumental in shaping the Amapiano genre.
